Happy World Baking Day! Every bakers favourite day is celebrated annually on May 17th. With very little to do when the restrictions were imposed last year, a lot of people turned to baking. As a result, that there was a massive increase in the sale of flour. So much so, in one week alone, Tesco Ireland sold over 600,000 bags of flour. Hands up who tried to perfect the banana bread recipe?
So it goes without saying that we would want to celebrate World Baking Day. A day filled with yummy cakes and buns, what’s not to love?! We are sharing a favourite recipe of ours for flourless brownies that you can try at home. We made these delicious brownies using some of our favourite baking tools and accessories.
Ingredients
- 75 g unsalted butter, chopped, plus extra to grease
- 100 g ground almonds (optional)
- 250 g caster sugar
- 250 g dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids), chopped
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs
- 250 g caster sugar
- 15 g cocoa powder
Method
- When baking, it is so important to have exact measurements. With this in mind, we turned to our digital scales. We absolutely love this Taylor Touchless Digital Scales. These weighing scales only require a wave of the hand to set your measurements back to zero. Because of this, it helps to keep the countertops clean as we go.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C fan) mark 4. Lightly grease and line a square baking tin with baking parchment. This Masterclass Bake Square Pan is a great option. This heavy-duty, square baking tin features a double non-stick coating which means it is durable and extremely easy to clean also.
- Melt the chocolate and butter together in a large mixing bowl over low heat, giving it a stir every so often. Remove from the heat and mix in the cocoa powder, vanilla and sugar. Whisk all the ingredients in the bowl until they are combined. We love these vibrant mixing bowls and they come in three handy baking sizes – 5L, 4L AND 3L.
- Add in the eggs, one at a time, before stirring in the (optional) ground almonds. To get your brownie mixture perfectly smooth, we recommend using a hand mixer. KitchenAid is synonymous with cooking and baking. Although this is a smaller version of the classic KitchenAid Stand Mixer, this handy tool still produces BIG results. Alternatively, you can use a whisk if you don’t have a hand mixer.
- Bake for 25-30min or until firm to the touch. Leave the brownies to cool completely.
- Finally, chill the brownies for at least 1hr before cutting into squares.
Once your brownies have chilled, keep them well wrapped in foil or in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Throw them out after this time.
