The Good Room Skincare Saviours for summer-stressed skin.

Heatwave skin is a thing.
Sun. SPF. Sweat. Salt water. Air conditioning.
Your skin barrier may be asking for a little less doing and a little more restoring.
Because while we loved the long evenings, bare arms and unexpected Irish sunshine, our skin may be ready for the beauty equivalent of a very large glass of water and an early night.
The temptation when skin looks dull, dry or tired is to do more. Exfoliate. Add an active. Try something new.
Our advice? Don’t.
Your skin probably needs less intervention and more restoration. For now, think hydration. Nourishment. Barrier support. Gentle botanicals. And SPF — always SPF.
We took a look through the Meadows & Byrne beauty shelves and pulled out the skincare saviours we’d reach for right now.
Welcome to The Good Room Heatwave Heroes.
THE BARRIER HERO
Doctrine Repair Barrier Repair Cream
When your skin is feeling a little over summer, start with the barrier.
Think of this as the quiet fixer in your bathroom cabinet — particularly when skin feels tight, dry or more sensitive than usual.
Our favourite way to use it? Strip everything back for a few evenings.
Gentle cleanse. Hydrate. Barrier cream. Bed.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for your skin is stop trying quite so hard.
GOOD FOR: Dryness • Sensitivity • Barrier support

THE HYDRATION HERO
Pestle & Mortar Pure Hyaluronic Serum
If your skin could order a drink, this would be it.
Hyaluronic acid is one of those beauty ingredients that has survived the hype cycle for good reason: it helps skin hold onto hydration.
Apply to slightly damp skin, follow with moisturiser and let it do its thing.
No drama. Just a very good drink for thirsty skin.
GOOD FOR: Dehydration • Tightness • Plumping

THE BOTANICAL HERO
Modern Botany Multi-Tasking Oil
This is the one we’d pack for the end-of-summer everything.
A beautiful botanical blend including calendula, chamomile, borage, Irish flax, avocado oil and squalane, it’s designed to nourish dry, tight, sensitised and dull skin.
And it doesn’t stop at your face.
Press a few drops onto skin, smooth through dry ends, massage into cuticles or use anywhere summer has left its mark.
GOOD FOR: Dryness • Dullness • Face, hair & body

THE HOME-GROWN HERO
Dublin Herbalists Hydrating Face Serum
A reminder that excellent skincare doesn’t necessarily have to travel very far.
Made in Ireland, this natural serum combines argan and jojoba oils with botanical ingredients to bring hydration and nourishment back to tired-looking skin.
Three or four drops. Massage in. Exhale.
Particularly lovely as we enter that peculiar Irish period where it’s summer at lunchtime and autumn by 7pm.
GOOD FOR: Hydration • Nourishment • Tired skin

THE BODY HERO
VOYA Softly Does It Hydrating Body Lotion
We need to discuss the skincare injustice that happens every summer.
Our faces get serums, creams and SPF.
Our shoulders, arms and legs get… hope.
After weeks of sun, swimming, showers and bare skin, your body deserves to be included in the recovery plan.
Apply after a lukewarm shower while skin is still slightly damp. If you’re particularly parched, bring in a richer body butter or nourishing oil.
GOOD FOR: Arms • Legs • Shoulders • Post-holiday skin

THE HERO WE’RE NOT PUTTING AWAY
SPF
The heatwave ending does not mean the SPF goes back in the drawer.
UV doesn’t check the weather app.
Keep your daily SPF firmly in rotation as we move towards autumn. Repairing summer-stressed skin is good.
Protecting it is even better.
AND A FEW THINGS THAT DON’T COME IN A BOTTLE…
Give your skin a quieter few days.
Drink the water.
Eat the watermelon.
Take the make-up off.
Turn the shower temperature down.
Give aggressive exfoliation a little holiday of its own.
And sleep.
Beauty editors have spent decades searching for something more glamorous to say about sleep. Unfortunately, it remains annoyingly effective.
